This set from the Polish manufacturer Aber brings accurate turned metal barrels for the armament of the French tank AMX-30 in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a detail accessory with which the plastic parts of the barrel of the 20 mm M693 automatic cannon and of the barrel of the coaxial 7.62 mm F1 machine gun are replaced. The metal form does away with the mold seam, keeps a perfectly circular section and offers a cleanly drilled muzzle, which on a plastic part is reached only with difficulty.
The AMX-30 was the main battle tank of the French army, designed in the 1960s with the emphasis on low weight and mobility rather than on heavy armor. In the AMX-30 B2 version the original coaxial heavy machine gun was replaced by the 20 mm M693 automatic cannon, which could be elevated away from the barrel of the gun and used against lightly armored and air targets alike. The supplementary armament was the 7.62 mm F1 machine gun. The AMX-30 and its derived versions served besides France in a number of other armies.
Metal barrels are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger mating surfaces a two-part epoxy helps. Before gluing, degrease the parts with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and roughen the mating surfaces gently. Metal calls for a good adhesion base coat, best of all a primer from a spray can or an airbrush, or the paint rubs off during handling. It pays to pick out the muzzle of the barrel only with a gentle sooting with pigment, so that the real bore stands out.
This is a detail accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
