A turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber. It matches the 88 mm KwK 43 gun with a barrel length of L/71 in the form used on the heavy tank Tiger B with the production (Henschel) turret and on late Jagdpanther vehicles. It is not a model of a vehicle but a detail accessory: the metal barrel replaces the plastic part, keeps its straightness and has a hollow muzzle as well as a suggested muzzle brake.
The 88 mm KwK 43 L/71 gun was the main weapon of the German heavy armored vehicles at the close of the Second World War. The Tiger B, also known as the Tiger II, received after the first pieces with the so-called Porsche turret the production Henschel turret with a flat front wall and a simpler cutout for the barrel. The same weapon was carried by the Jagdpanther tank destroyer, on which late production used the divided form of the barrel to make replacing the worn front section easier. The combination of a long barrel and powerful ammunition gave this weapon exceptional range and penetrating power alike.
Cut off the plastic barrel at the root, clean out the opening in the mantlet or the shield and push the metal part home. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and roughen the mating surfaces lightly; it is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay a base coat meant for metals onto the metal parts, or the paint will hold poorly. The hollow muzzle stands out when you darken it lightly from inside with a soot shade. On so long a barrel check the alignment from the front and from the side; it helps to stand the model on a level board while it dries, so that the barrel does not droop.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
