About product

ROQF Mk.I 76.2 mm barrel for the Matilda Mk.IIICS 1:35 – Aber

This turned metal set from the Polish maker Aber in 1:35 scale holds the barrel of the British ROQF Mk.I 76.2 mm howitzer for the Matilda infantry tank in the Mk.IIICS version, and with it the barrel of the coaxial Besa machine gun. The metal parts have no seam from the mold parting line, they keep an exact circular cross section and the muzzles are drilled out. The set is an accessory to the kit and does not hold the model of the vehicle.

The real subject

The Matilda was a British infantry tank of the Second World War, famous for the thick armor that earned it the nickname Queen of the Desert in the North African campaign. The standard versions carried a 2-pounder gun, but that could not fire effective high-explosive ammunition. A close support version marked CS was therefore created, in which the main gun was replaced by a 76.2 mm howitzer able to fire smoke and high-explosive shells. The secondary armament was a coaxial Besa machine gun.

Building and painting tips

The turned barrel is fitted in place of the plastic part, which usually has to be cut off, and the hole in the mantlet or shield carefully opened out with a round file. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy, and on heavier parts it is worth reinforcing the joint. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and apply a primer, otherwise the paint holds badly. We recommend blackening the muzzle and knocking back the inside to a matte finish; the outer surface takes light drybrushing with a metallic pigment and some wear at the muzzle.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the British Matilda infantry tank in 1:35 scale
  • Anyone interested in the close support version with a howitzer instead of a gun
  • Anyone who wants metal barrels with no seam from the mold
  • Advanced modelers working with metal accessories

This is a detail set, not a model of the vehicle. The base kit, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a turned metal barrel, that is a detail accessory. The base kit of the vehicle has to be obtained separately.

The abbreviation marks the close support version. Instead of the 2-pounder gun it carried a 76.2 mm howitzer, which could fire smoke and high-explosive ammunition.

Yes. According to the name, besides the howitzer barrel the set holds the barrel of the coaxial Besa machine gun.

It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy. Before painting, the metal has to be degreased and sprayed with a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
