The SX-Art set holds self-adhesive masks for spraying a model of the light GAZ truck in 1:35 scale, in the AA, AAA and MM versions. These are not canopy masks and this is not a kit, because the masks are used while painting a model that is already built. The exact package contents and the number of sheets are stated on the box. The masks are cut for the Zvezda kit.
A truck has many flat surfaces and few soft shapes, so every irregularity in the spraying shows on it. A mask gives the outline a clean and repeatable shape that looks the same on both sides of the vehicle, and few people manage that freehand. At the same time a mask comes into its own on vehicles where you work with sharp transitions on the hood, the fenders and the cargo bed and where a soft overspray does not look good.
Let the base shade cure thoroughly, ideally overnight, otherwise the mask will pull the paint off with it when removed. Degrease the surface before laying the mask on and press it down mainly along the edges. On a wooden cargo bed and a frame with raised detail it is worth cutting the mask into smaller pieces and laying them on in sections, because a single sheet will not stick tightly across the edges. You get a hard edge by laying the mask directly on the surface, a softer one by lifting it slightly above the surface. Spray the paint in thin passes and rather straight down than at an angle, so that it does not creep under the edge. Remove the masks shortly after they dry, at a sharp angle. On an angular vehicle it is worth thinking the order of shades out in advance: first the lighter tone over the whole surface, only then the darker one through the masks, so that you do not have to cover large areas.
The set contains painting masks only. The model, paints and an airbrush are not included in the package.
