The Quickwheel 1:35 German 12.8 cm Sturer Emil self-propelled gun masking set is for the road wheels. It separates the rubber tire band from the rim and replaces lining by hand.

A set of masks for painting the road wheels of the German 12.8 cm heavy self-propelled gun known by the nickname Sturer Emil. It is not a kit or a part; it is an aid that marks out the rubber tire band against the rim on the wheel. The set is cut for the Trumpeter kit.
The vehicle was built on the chassis of a developmental heavy tank and its running gear belongs to an earlier period of German design. The wheels are arranged in a single row rather than interleaved over one another, and the upper run of the track is carried above by separate rollers — exactly what later interleaved running gears lack, because there the track rides on the wheels themselves. The hull is very long, so there are many wheels on each side and they form a continuous band from the front drive sprocket to the idler wheel at the rear. For the modeler the essential point is that the individual wheels are visible in full, do not overlap one another, and so there is no relying on a botched edge disappearing behind the neighboring wheel, as is partly possible with interleaved running gears.
A long row of exposed wheels is like a line of type seen from the side: the eye travels along it and registers at once when one wheel looks different from the rest. Consistency matters more here than absolute precision — and consistency is exactly what a mask guarantees better than a hand. On a shelf that produces a calm, orderly running gear that carries the whole long silhouette of the vehicle; in a competition case, repeated accuracy across every wheel is one of the few objectively measurable marks of craft.
This is a modeling accessory, not a kit. Paints, glue and the model itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
