The Quickwheel 1:35 Krupp Protze masking set is cut for the kit from Tamiya and covers the tires so you can paint the rims with a clean circular edge.

A self-adhesive masking set for painting the wheels of the Krupp Protze cargo truck in 1:35 scale, cut for the kit from Tamiya. It covers the tire, the rim is sprayed over with the vehicle color and the transition stays exactly circular. It is neither a kit nor a part of the model, but a painting aid.
The last step tends to be the one that can ruin the whole job. A fingernail is hard, thick and uncontrollable: before it gets under the edge of the mask, it usually digs into the fresh paint beside it and leaves a groove or a print in it. What is more, when the nail catches, the mask comes up with a jerk, square away from the surface — and that is exactly the direction in which the paint under the mask tears off the plastic too. Use the tip of a pair of tweezers or the blade of a scalpel instead, just to lift the mask, and then pull it slowly at a slant backwards, ideally back over itself. A slow pull at a shallow angle puts far less strain on the paint at the border and the edge stays smooth. And since there is always a little grease on your fingers, a nail also leaves a trace on a painted wheel that will show the moment matte varnish or dust arrives.
Paint the wheel in the tire shade, let it dry, mask it and spray the rim over twice. Lift the mask off with tweezers as soon as the paint has flashed off — not later, when the film is cured and breaks along the edge less cleanly.
This is a masking set. Paints, the kit and further accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
