An engine deck grille for the M3 Lee and Grant medium tank in 1:35 scale from AMMO of Mig Jimenez replaces the coarsely molded part from a kit with a more accurate accessory.

Note that this is not a model of the tank but an add-on set for a kit already bought. It replaces the grille over the engine compartment, that is a detail that injection molds find hard to reproduce faithfully: in the box there is usually a solid surface with a suggested mesh, whereas on the real vehicle it is an open cover for the cooling air. The designation universal means that the part is not cut for one particular boxing but for the usual dimensions of M3 medium tank kits in this scale. The set belongs among accessories in resin and plastic.
The M3 was an American medium tank of the early 1940s. Characteristic of it is the placing of the main armament in the right-hand sponson and a smaller gun in a rotating turret. The British form received a different turret and the designation Grant, while the American one was used under the name Lee. The engine was housed at the rear and its cooling called for large grilled areas on the rear of the hull, which are clearly visible on a model.
First separate the parts carefully from the casting block or the fret with a sharp cutter, not by twisting. Level the area on the model where the grille is to go completely flat and remove the original mesh. Always make a dry test first, as a universal accessory may call for a little sanding. Glue it with a drop of cyanoacrylate applied with a stick or a wire, not straight from the bottle. Before painting, degrease the whole part and spray it with a base coat, as otherwise the paint holds poorly on a smooth surface. Given the open mesh it pays to spray the base shade before gluing it in and then only to blend the joint afterwards.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
