This item is not a model of the tank but an accessory for it: a set of masking shapes for the road wheels of the Leopard 1 in the A3 and A4 versions in 1:35 scale. The mask separates the rubber tire band from the rim, so the edge between the two shades need not be lined by hand. The set is cut to the wheels of the Meng kit — with wheel masks the shape matches a particular molding, so check the match with your own kit beforehand.
The Leopard 1 is among the tanks with a high number of road wheels: there are seven on each side, with return rollers above them. The wheels are large in diameter and have a wide rubber tire band, so the band forms a pronounced dark line along the whole length of the vehicle. In the A3 and A4 versions the running gear stays the same as on the earlier series; what changes is mainly the turret — in painting terms, then, you are dealing with fourteen large circles plus the rollers and a drive sprocket and idler wheel of a different shape. If the width of the tire band drifts even slightly from wheel to wheel, it creates a wave along the long side of the vehicle that even a layman will notice.
Cutting your own circles with a compass cutter or masking them out with an office circle template sounds like an easy shortcut, except that a tire band is not a full circle — it is an annulus of a precisely given width. A template gives you one diameter, not a pair of concentric edges, and with seven wheels per side the deviations add up. A ready-made mask deals with both diameters at once and identically for every wheel. Work on the wheels before they are fitted to the hull and before the side skirts go on.
