This injection-molded plastic kit from Dragon captures the American M48A3 medium tank in its Mod.B version from the period of the Vietnam War, in 1:35 scale. The new mold offers cast texture on the hull and the turret, fine detail and clear parts; the exact contents of the package are given on the box.
The M48 Patton was the main medium tank of the US Army and the Marine Corps; it reached the fighting in Vietnam from 1965 and proved itself above all in support of infantry. The M48A3 version was given a diesel engine instead of a gasoline one, which extended its range and lowered the risk of fire, and a 90 mm gun. The Mod.B form brought strengthened fenders with firmer mounts and headlight guards, a raised commander's cupola with a higher ring of vision ports for a better all-round view, and further small changes. It was in just this form that the tank usually looked when it served with units of the US Army and the Marine Corps in Southeast Asia.
Assemble and paint the running gear and the inside of the hull before you close it, because once it is glued the running gear is hard to reach. When painting, bring out the cast texture on the hull and the turret with gentle lightening of the edges and shadows in the recesses, and the characteristic casting will then stand out. For the damp tropical surroundings of Vietnam a richer green base suits, with pronounced mud effects in pigment on the underside, dusty fenders and light drawing of paint chipping on the exposed edges and hatches.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
