An injection-molded plastic model of the rig of the Soviet heavy tractor MAZ-537G (the intermediate type) with the MAZ/ChMZAP-5247G semitrailer tank transporter, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The kit holds a finely worked tractor as well as the trailer, rubber tires, photo-etched sheet, metal wire and good decals. The exact number of parts is given in the enclosed instructions.
The MAZ-537 was a Soviet heavy four-axle tractor with all-wheel drive, powered by a capable diesel engine. The 537G version was fitted with a towing coupling and a winch for working with the trailer. Joined with the ChMZAP-5247G transporter it made a rig intended to move tanks and other heavy armored equipment over long distances. Its robust construction allowed loads of tens of tons to be hauled.
With a sizeable rig it pays to assemble and paint the chassis, the drivetrain and the cab of the tractor and the bed of the trailer before the whole is closed up. Glue the plastic parts with thin modeling cement for plastic, and the photo-etched and metal parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); fit the rubber tires only after painting. Apply a primer before painting and spray the paint with an airbrush in thin coats. Fine-tune the weathering with dark washes into the recesses and pigments for dust and mud effects on the chassis and the load bed.
