This is not a model or a set of parts, but a masking accessory. On the road wheels of the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale the set separates the rubber tire band from the rim. The cut matches the wheels of the Meng kit — with wheel masks the shape is tied to a particular molding, so check the match beforehand.
The Panzerhaubitze 2000 stands on a long tracked hull with seven road wheels on each side, hung on torsion bars. It is a heavy vehicle, so the wheels are large in diameter and the rubber tire band is wide. The essential difference from tanks is the ratio of hull length to the height of the side: the howitzer has a low and very long hull, so the running gear forms a pronounced horizontal line across the whole vehicle and any irregularity in the width of the tire bands reads as a ripple. The side skirts cover the wheels only partly, so nothing can be hidden from the result. The drive sprocket and the idler wheel differ in shape from the road wheels and are dealt with separately.
Cutting fourteen annuli out of masking tape is feasible, but they practically never come out the same — and on a vehicle with a side this long, sameness is precisely what decides. A hand cut also gives a slightly angular circumference and creates a step at the overlap, where paint bleeds under the tape. A ready-made shape is identical for every wheel, so the regular rhythm the subject has is what emerges. Paint the wheels separately, while you can still hold them by the axle.
