Metal 100 mm gun barrel for the SU-100, 1:35

A turned metal barrel of the Soviet 100 mm gun for a model of the SU-100 tank destroyer, in 1:35 scale. It is not a model but a replacement part. It is on a long barrel that the difference between plastic and metal shows most: a plastic part tends to be glued from two halves, carries a parting line along its whole length and comes out of the mold slightly bowed.

Building and painting tips

Drill the opening in the front of the superstructure to the diameter of the shank, so that the barrel seats square. On a long barrel it pays to stand the model up after gluing and check it from the front and from above, because the slightest deviation shows at first glance. It is glued with super glue. Degrease the part before painting and lay down a primer, or the paint will not hold on the smooth metal. A metal barrel is heavier, so fit it at the end of the build.
