A detail set from the Polish manufacturer Aber with an accurate turned metal barrel of the Soviet D-10T tank gun of 100 mm in 1:35 scale, in the form matching the upgraded tanks T-55AM, T-55AMV and the Polish version T-55 Merida. It is not a kit of the vehicle but an accessory replacing the plastic barrel. The metal form does away with the mold seam, keeps an exact circular section and offers a faithful muzzle; the set also captures the characteristic thermal protective shroud of the barrel, typical of the late upgrades.
The D-10T gun of 100 mm was the basic armament of the T-54 and T-55 tanks and in upgraded versions it served long after the end of the Cold War. The T-55AM and T-55AMV upgrades brought a new fire control system, add-on armor and, in the case of the AMV version, explosive reactive armor as well. The T-55 Merida is a Polish upgrade aimed at improving the accuracy of fire and the survival of the crew. All these versions kept the proven gun of 100 mm, supplemented with a thermal protective shroud for the barrel.
Glue the metal barrel with cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger mating surfaces with a two-part epoxy. Degrease the parts with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and roughen the surfaces gently. Lay on an adhesion primer before painting. Fill and sand the transition between the metal barrel and the plastic mantlet. The thermal shroud of the barrel comes to life nicely with a gentle picking out of the clamping straps and a light dusty cast.
