A pre-cut self-adhesive masking set in 1:35 scale for the Sd.Kfz.173 Jagdpanther tank destroyer in the Ausf. G1 production version. It is not a kit but an accessory for a model you already own — it takes the place of the tedious cutting of masking tape. The set is cut to the shapes of the parts of one particular kit, so make sure before ordering that is the one you are building. The dimensions and shapes are based on the Meng kit.
The Jagdpanther stands on the chassis of the Panther, and that has interleaved road wheels with rubber tires. From the painting point of view that is the most demanding place on the whole model: there are many wheels, they are arranged in two and even three layers, and on each one the rubber tire has to be separated from the painted disc exactly all the way round. Tape trimmed by hand means an evening's work here, and the unevenness then shows on the finished model as a tire of differing width from one wheel to the next. The second area is the vision ports and periscopes of the fixed casemate and the surfaces around the gun mantlet, where a sharp border without a step is what is wanted.
Always offer the mask up dry first and compare the diameter of the circle with the road wheel — diameters and the profile of the tire differ between kits, and with interleaved wheels any difference shows several times over. Center a circular mask on the hub, not on the outer outline. Degrease the surfaces, tap the edge of the mask down with a blunt toothpick all the way round and spray in thin coats so that paint does not bleed under it. Take the masks off while the paint has only just dried, pulling at a sharp angle.
This is an accessory for a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
