This complete set from the manufacturer Elefant contains, according to the name of the product, 14 resin road wheels in 1:35 scale, in the version with a mud shield. It is not a vehicle model but an accessory for a plastic kit, in which the whole running gear is replaced. The family of vehicles stated shares a similar running gear arrangement, so one set covers several types from the American postwar development line.
The resin castings are supplied on casting blocks that have to be removed. Use a fine saw or a cutting disc in a micro drill and cut with some margin away from the part, then sand the remainder back. Never break the part off - resin is hard but brittle and will crack at its thinnest point, which is usually right at the edge of the disc. Sand wet or with a respirator; the dust should not be breathed. Then comes degreasing: warm water with detergent and a soft brush will remove any residue of mold release agent. Without this step neither paint nor primer will hold and the finish will rub off during handling. Once dry, apply a thin coat of primer, preferably from a spray can, so that the tread pattern does not get filled in.
They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and the gel type gives time to true them up. With 14 wheels it pays to check the alignment by eye along the hull before the glue sets. Paint the hub in the base shade of the vehicle and the rubber tire a dark gray with a brown cast, never pure black. Finally add dust into the recesses and wear on the running surface.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
