A self-adhesive masking set for painting the wheels of the sWs heavy half-track tractor in 1:35 scale, cut for the kits from Lion Roar and Bronco. It covers the rubber part of the wheel, so the rim can be sprayed over with the vehicle color and the border stays exactly circular. It is neither a kit nor a replacement part.
Some kits supply their tires as soft castings rather than as hard plastic. Material like that behaves differently and calls for a different approach. The surface tends to be greasy with release agent, so wash it in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap before painting and let it dry out completely — otherwise the paint will not hold and the mask will not grip. Use a flexible paint in thin coats; a thick, hard film on a soft base cracks when it is bent. Do not clamp the part in anything while masking, so it cannot be deformed, and press the mask down by rolling it around the circumference rather than by pressing from above. Allow more drying time, too, than you are used to with hard plastic; a soft material holds on to solvent for longer. And remove the mask carefully — paint tears away from a soft surface more easily than from plastic.
Paint the washed and dry wheel in the rubber shade, let it dry, apply the mask and spray the rim over twice. With soft parts it pays to test the adhesion of the paint on an inconspicuous spot before the main painting.
This is a masking set. Paints, the kit and further accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
