SYMBOLE46 — painting masks with symbols 1:35 (Solid Scale)

A set of painting masks from the German manufacturer Solid Scale. These are not decals, but masks for spraying: the symbols are applied to the model in paint through the film, so the result is part of the finish and has none of the glossy edge typical of a decal. The set holds several different symbols in several sizes and is intended to round out camouflage patterns in the hypothetical 1946 or What If style. The spacing matches 1:35 scale.

Use

• Apply the symbols only onto a dry base coat, ideally once the main camouflage pattern is finished.
• Check the position dry first, and on symmetrical items help yourself with a thin guide tape.
• Press the edge of the mask down all the way round, otherwise the paint bleeds under and the symbol loses its sharpness.
• Spray at a right angle, in a thin coat and in two passes, not in one heavy application.
• Take the film off shortly after the paint has dried and put it back on its backing.

Who the set is for

For modelers who want their markings sprayed rather than stuck on — on roughened or matte surfaces decals often silver. It is also useful where the same symbol is needed in several sizes. The film is low-tack and is intended for repeated use.

Because the symbols are applied in paint, they are easy to weather and to cover with varnish — there is no edge of carrier film that would have to be hidden.

Paints and glue are not included in the package. The model the symbols are applied to is sold separately.
