1:35 T-34/76 Painting Mask is a set of self-adhesive stencils for spraying camouflage onto a model of the T-34/76 tank in 1:35 scale. The stencils define the shape of the color patches; these are not canopy masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of self-adhesive stencils for carrying the camouflage pattern onto a model of the T-34/76 medium tank. The shapes are cut for the T-34/76 kit from Dragon, so they respect the division of the hull, the turret and the fenders of that particular kit. The stencils are laid onto a dry base coat and serve as the template for spraying a further shade.
A mask applied and pressed against the surface gives a sharp, clearly bounded transition. Real field camouflage, however, often had blurred transitions, because it was sprayed with improvised equipment. You get that effect by not seating the stencil directly on the surface but packing it, for instance with a strip of masking tape or thin foam laid under the edge. The paint then reaches under the edge in a controlled way and the transition will be soft. The higher the packing and the greater the distance of the nozzle, the more blurred the line.
Make the packing only a few tenths of a millimeter high, otherwise it turns into an indistinct smear. Spray from a greater distance, at lower pressure and in really thin coats, so that the paint has time to close between the passes. It pays to try the setting out in advance on a piece of plastic or on a plastic bottle, because the softness of the edge is tuned more by feel than from a table. The two can be combined: an applied sharp edge where the pattern was created with a stencil on the real subject, and a soft one where it was sprayed freely.
The stencils are a modeling accessory. The kit, the paints and the clear coat are not included in the package.
