About product

Tiger I, initial production early 1943 (1:35, Rye Field Model)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Tiger I heavy tank (Pz.Kpfw.VI Ausf.E, Sd.Kfz.181) in 1:35 scale from Rye Field Model (RFM). The version corresponds to an early production vehicle of the beginning of 1943; it is the version with a full interior of the hull, the turret and the engine compartment. The box usually contains tracks assembled from individual links, photo-etched and clear parts, cables and decals. This release tends to be linked with the North African front (Tunisia). Check the exact contents against the manufacturer's part number for this item.

The real subject

The Tiger I was a German heavy tank which, from its first use at the end of 1942, became the symbol of feared German armored strength. It carried the powerful 88 mm KwK 36 gun and thick frontal armor, thanks to which it outmatched most Allied tanks at long range. Early production vehicles of the beginning of 1943 had characteristic details, among others the drum-type commander's cupola and deep wading equipment, which set them apart from later production.

Building and painting tips

Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement. With the interior version, paint and assemble the inside of the hull, the turret and the engine before you close the parts up — some of it can be left exposed. Finish the link tracks and the lower hull in good time. After the base coat (over a primer, with an airbrush), bring the tank to life with washes in the recesses, wear on the edges and dust pigments; sand shades and strong dusting suit the North African vehicles.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of German heavy armor of the Second World War
  • Modelers who want to display a Tiger I with the interior exposed
  • Anyone interested in early production vehicles and the North African front
  • Advanced builders with experience of rich interiors

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes, it is the interior version with a well-worked inside of the hull, the turret and the engine compartment. The model can be displayed with the parts exposed.

Early production Tigers had characteristic details (for example the drum-type commander's cupola and deep wading equipment) which set them apart from later vehicles.

Rather not. The full interior and the large number of parts make the build a project for advanced and experienced modelers.
