A resin kit of the American RL35 cable cart in 1:35 scale. It is not a combat vehicle but auxiliary equipment of signal units, which comes into its own excellently in a diorama together with figures. The small resin parts make it a build for more experienced modelers.
Field telephone communication was the backbone of command at the tactical level in the Second World War and meant laying out tens of kilometers of cable. Cable reels served for that; they could be carried, taken on a vehicle or, precisely, fixed to a light two-wheeled cart. The crew pulled it along behind them and the cable unwound steadily, or, once an action was over, was wound back in instead. The design of the RL35 cart comes from the same family as the American hand utility carts, with which it shares the wheels and a number of frame parts.
Wash the resin parts in warm soapy water, so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw rather than breaking them, level the surfaces with a file while protecting your airways, and glue with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a base coat before painting. The model can be finished strikingly by winding on a real cable: a thin copper wire or a nylon filament painted dark will serve. The frame and the wheels will take more pronounced weathering, because the cart was used in the field and was usually muddy and chipped.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, wire and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
