About product

Archer 1:35, US Army division patches, the 2nd Cavalry and infantry divisions

A sheet of dry transfers in 1:35 scale with shoulder patches of American divisions. According to the name it covers the 2nd Cavalry Division and then the 65th, 77th, 100th, 102nd and 103rd Divisions, so within the range it is one of the more extensive sheets. The set serves to mark figures; it is not a model or a package of figures.

Dry transfers are not soaked

The fundamental difference from ordinary decals: the sheet is not soaked off in water. Cut the motif out together with its carrier film, lay it face down on the sleeve of the figure, hold it with tweezers and burnish gently with a rounded point, a toothpick, a bone burnisher or a pencil without lead. The motif is released from the film and passes into the finish. Lift the film slowly and at an angle; if the whole area has not transferred, return it to exactly the same position and burnish again. Anyone who soaks the sheet will ruin it.

Why a transfer pays off on a figure

In 1:35 scale a patch measures only a fraction of a millimeter and this is exactly where a waterslide decal fails: on the matte cloth of a uniform the carrier film creates a glossy island that shows through even after matting. A dry transfer leaves no film behind, so the marking looks painted on. The surface should be smooth, well dried and degreased; on a coarsely grained surface only part of the motif transfers. A magnifier and good lighting will make the work easier. Because the sheet covers several divisions at once, it pays to work out before the build which figures belong to which unit, as the motifs are harder to tell apart at this scale. After transfer, seal the marking with matte varnish.

Who the set is for

  • builders of US Army figures in 1:35 scale
  • modelers putting together a larger scene with several units
  • makers of dioramas with the emphasis on uniform detail
  • patient modelers working with tweezers and a magnifier

The set contains the markings only, not figures or a model. The exact breakdown of the patches is stated on the box.

FAQ

No. They are dry transfers, transferred by burnishing with a blunt point through the carrier film. Soaking will destroy the sheet.

According to the name, the 2nd Cavalry Division and the 65th, 77th, 100th, 102nd and 103rd Divisions.

In 1:35 scale the patches are very small, so we recommend working with a magnifier and working out in advance which figures belong to which unit.

We recommend a light coat of matte varnish. The transfer is sealed and will take further shading and weathering of the uniform.
