The Valentine has one of the most distinctive chassis you will meet in 1:35 scale, and for masking that has a very concrete consequence. The wheels are not the same. There are two bogies on each side and each of them combines one large wheel with a pair of smaller ones, all of which have rubber. On one model you therefore need at least two different template diameters, and that is exactly the situation in which lining by hand fails most often — a modeler gets used to a stroke matching one radius and then guides the line on the smaller wheels either too far from the edge or over it. Add to that the fact that the smaller wheels sit tightly together and close to the ground, where both the light and the access are poor, and you have the most tiresome running gear of the whole category. The upper run of the track is also carried by a separate roller.
This is a typical case where the time saved is not the main point — the number of wheels is nothing dizzying, but their variety turns work by hand into a lottery. What the set brings here is not just saved minutes but above all agreement between the left and the right side and between the large and the small wheels. It pays off for anyone who builds the model with an exposed running gear and wants it to stand up to a view from the side. It can be skipped where the bogie sinks into the terrain or where the model is bound for a heavily muddied scene. It is also true that on British equipment the rubber on the wheels tends to be closer in color to the base shade than in other armies, so a slightly imprecise border does not punish as much as on a contrasting combination.
