An add-on set from Voyager Model, which replaces the tracks of the base kit with individual links. It is not a kit of the vehicle and not a finished model. The set is meant for a modeler who already owns the matching kit and wants to reach a more faithful shape of the track than a one-piece rubber band or coarse plastic segments offer.
The abbreviation LVT stands for Landing Vehicle Tracked. These were amphibious carriers used by American forces in the Pacific during the Second World War, which could drive from a ship right onto a beach and carry on overland. A characteristic feature of these vehicles is tracks with transverse paddles, which at the same time work as the blades driving the vehicle in the water. It is precisely this shape that is immediately recognizable on a model, and simplifying it is glaringly obvious.
Building a track from individual links calls for a system. First count how many links you need for one run and assemble them in longer stretches on a flat surface, ideally laid against a ruler, so that the track does not ripple. If the set allows a workable joint, let the parts cure only partly and wrap the finished track around the wheels before the glue has set completely. On this type of vehicle the sag of the upper run of the track is smaller than on a classic tank, so do not pull the track by force into deep curves. Do the painting separately from the hull: a dark base first, then suggest metal on the edges of the paddles and at the end add settled sand or mud according to the surroundings you are setting the model into. A vehicle moving in the surf has characteristic traces of salt and wet sand on the tracks.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
