This is not an airplane model but a set of so-called raised rivet decals from a Czech manufacturer. Unlike engraved, recessed rivets, these decals create small raised, three-dimensional rivets on the surface of a model. The set is prepared for the dimensions and the layout of the rivets of the Japanese fighter Mitsubishi A6M5 / 5a Zero in 1:48 scale.
The A6M Zero was a Japanese carrier-based fighter of the Second World War, renowned for its agility and great range. The A6M5 version was among the late, better performing forms with modified wings and exhausts; the 5a subversion brought further small changes. The surface of the aircraft had a multitude of rivets, which this set helps to imitate faithfully.
The decals are applied like ordinary waterslide decals onto a smooth surface prepared with varnish. Work in smaller areas, align the rows of rivets with the original lines and, once dry, seal them with matte varnish so that the edge of the decal blends into the surface. A raised rivet then stands out under a wash as well as under drybrushing.
The accessory calls for a base kit; the paints, the varnish and the model are not included in the package.
