B-17G Flying Fortress bomb bay 1:48 is an Eduard photo-etched set for the detailed completion of the bomb bay of a model of the four-engine bomber. It is an accessory, not a kit.

This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard deals with a single space on the model, but the most broken-up one: the bomb bay. Photo-etched metal replaces the supporting framework, the bulkheads and the fine elements that are necessarily simplified in injected plastic. The result is a space that stands up to a close look and to open doors. It is not a model of the aircraft, nor a main part of one: it is a detail set for completing a kit in 1:48 scale that you have already bought. The exact make-up of the parts is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
The bomb bay of the B-17 took up the middle part of the fuselage between the cockpit and the rear section and was divided by a beam along which ran a narrow catwalk connecting the front and rear of the aircraft. The structure was open, with visible ribs, hangers and runs of pipe and wire, so a model with open doors shows far more than it would on other bombers. Version G is the most numerous production form of the type.
Deal with the bomb bay before you glue the fuselage halves together, because once it is closed you cannot get inside. Fold the parts dry beforehand and plan the order of assembly. Make the bends in small steps; the metal bends accurately but does not take being straightened repeatedly. Glue with thin cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a piece of wire. Paint the whole space before the fuselage is closed: primer, the base interior shade, then a dark wash into the corners and gentle dry brushing along the edges so that the structure stands out. Open doors call for clean work on the edges, as those will be the most visible.
