A sheet of water-soaked decals from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory meant for a model that has already been built and painted. The theme is Douglas Invader machines in the B-26B and B-26C versions as the countries of Latin America operated them. The sheet therefore offers markings outside the usual American schemes. The number of schemes, the particular aircraft and the countries are given in the instructions enclosed with the sheet.
The Douglas Invader was a twin-engine attack and light bomber aircraft with high speed and a sturdy structure. The B version had a solid, unglazed nose with gun armament, the C version a glazed nose with a station for the bombardier; otherwise the machines were close to one another. It was created at the close of the Second World War under the original designation A-26 and after 1948 it was redesignated B-26, which is the source of frequent confusion with another, unrelated type of the same number. The long life and the ruggedness of the type led to its being operated, after the United States, by a number of other countries, several Latin American ones among them.
A sheet devoted to foreign operators usually brings large national insignia and lettering across the whole area of a wing or a fuselage. Those call for a different procedure from small stencils: work on a perfectly glossy and smooth surface, apply the decal onto an area moistened with water beforehand so that it can be moved, and squeeze the water out from under the film with a soft cloth from the center toward the edges. On large areas it pays to apply the softener only after the first drying and to let the decal settle untouched. On leading edges and where the shape changes, a tiny nick with a scalpel helps the film. Apply the unifying coat in thin layers; a heavy layer could wrinkle the decal.
This is a separate decal sheet. The model, paints, varnishes and a softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
