A turned barrel for the 20 mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft gun in 1:48 scale from Aber. A metal replacement for the plastic barrel on models carrying this light anti-aircraft armament.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a turned metal barrel in 1:48 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It replaces the plastic barrel of the light 20 mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft gun. It is a model neither of the weapon nor of a vehicle but a detail accessory meant to make a build more accurate.
The 20 mm Oerlikon automatic gun of Swiss origin was among the most widespread light anti-aircraft armament of the Allied navies in the Second World War, and it also turned up on ground and vehicle mountings. What marks it out is a slender barrel with a hollow muzzle, which injection-molded plastic in 1:48 scale always renders thicker than it really was.
Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the body of the weapon as possible and drill the hole out to the right diameter if needed. Degrease the metal before gluing, roughen it slightly and glue it with the smallest amount of cyanoacrylate glue. Lay down a base coat for metals before painting. On anti-aircraft armament a discreet sooting of the muzzle with a fine pigment works well. Fit the thin barrel only at the end of the build so that it does not get bent while the model is handled further.
This is a detail set, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
