It serves to cover the glazing while the paint is sprayed, so that the cockpit frames come out sharp and straight without lining them by hand with a brush. This is the standard form, which masks the glazing from the outer face. The set is not a model of the machine or a kit; it is an accessory used when painting an already built model.

The real subject

The Bell-Boeing V-22 is a tiltrotor, that is a machine with tilting nacelles at the wingtips. On takeoff and landing the rotors point upward and the aircraft behaves like a helicopter; once the nacelles tilt into the horizontal position it moves into classic flight with higher speed and range. The MV-22 version is the transport form intended to carry personnel and cargo. Characteristic features of the type are two large three-blade rotors, a folding wing for stowage on deck and a cargo ramp in the rear of the fuselage.

How to use the masks

Clean and degrease the surface first, then stick the mask down exactly to the shape of the frame and press the edges with a toothpick. Spray the paint in thin layers; a heavy coat likes to tear when the mask is lifted. Take the mask off slowly and at a sharp angle, while the finish is only just touch-dry. If you are masking a large area of glazing, cover the rest with ordinary masking tape or masking fluid; the set deals above all with the frames.
