A pre-cut masking set by the Omask brand for a model of the Bf 109 G-6 fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit or a part of the aircraft, but a working accessory with which the canopy glazing is covered during painting. The set is cut for the Tamiya kit in 1:48 scale, because the shape of the canopy framing differs between models from different makers. According to its name it contains masks for the outer and the inner side of the glazing, which is the difference from simpler sets that deal with the outside only.
Peel the individual parts off the backing sheet with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers, and touch them with your fingers as little as possible, so that the adhesive layer does not lose its grip. Clean and degrease the clear part before sticking them on. Lay the mask down from one edge of the frame and press it down gradually; on curves help yourself with a toothpick. Close the edges carefully, otherwise the paint will creep under. Spray the paint in several thin layers, because a thick wet layer gets under the edge of the mask most easily. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has flashed off but is not yet fully cured; the edge will then stay sharp and will not tear. Stick the inner masks on before assembling the cockpit, because once the fuselage is closed you can no longer reach the glazing from the inside.
It will be appreciated by anyone who does not want to cut the canopy frames from masking tape by hand. It saves hours of work and the result is consistent, which shows above all on complex glazing. Suitable for beginners and advanced builders alike.
