Vinyl masks for the Friedrich, that is the Bf 109 fighter in the F-4 version. The box holds an outer cockpit stencil and two sheets with crosses.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4 version is regarded as the aerodynamically most balanced form of the German fighter. Rounded wingtips replaced the squared ones of the earlier batches, the tail bracing struts disappeared and a retractable tailwheel was joined by an improved cooling system. The armament was concentrated in the axis of the machine: an engine cannon and two synchronized machine guns above the cylinder block. Pilots valued how lightly the aircraft handled; they liked the weaker firepower against the versions with wing gondolas rather less.
The envelope contains one cockpit stencil cut for the outer surface and two sheets with crosses. The inner face of the glazing is not masked here, and so it stays clear.
It is worth comparing the thicknesses. A cockpit molding in 1:48 has a wall of around half a millimeter, which converted to the real machine corresponds to a plate over two centimeters thick. Die-cut film is ten times thinner by comparison and creates no step for the paint to run over. It is precisely this difference that makes a mask a better tool than adhesive tape cut with a knife: tape has both a carrier layer and adhesive and it lifts on a small curve. In 1:32 the difference would not be so significant, because there the frame can be outlined by hand, but at this size it decides the matter.
