Montex masks the Bf 109G-2 and its G-2/R-6 variant in 1:48 scale. The package covers the glazing from both sides, adds masks for the national insignia and a decal sheet; the cut is worked out for Hasegawa plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The G-2 version brought the DB 605 engine into service and with it higher power at high altitude. The Rüstsatz R-6 kit added a pair of MG 151/20 gondola cannons under the wings: against four-engine bombers that was welcome firepower, but in combat with fighters the aircraft lost part of its agility and pilots called the gondolas nothing but bulges.
The center hood of the glazing on the Messerschmitt does not slide back; the whole of it swings open to starboard on hinges. Anyone building a model with an open cockpit uncovers the reverse side of the framing by it, and that has a different shade from the fuselage spine, because it belongs to the interior. The set therefore carries masks for the outside and for the inside, so both colors land exactly in their place without touching up by hand with a brush.
The best result comes from the order in which the inner shade of the frames is sprayed first, then the glazing is glued into the fuselage and only at the very end is it masked from the outside. The films hold firmly enough not to let paint under the edge and at the same time come off without leaving adhesive marks. On frames as fine as a fighter has in this scale, a mask saves an hour of work with tweezers and a magnifier and the result looks a class better.
