Masks for the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 in 1:48 scale. They offer an outside mask, an inside mask and two sets of national insignia masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
The most widely modeled version of the Messerschmitt received large-caliber machine guns in the cowling, whose breeches would not fit under the smooth skin. That created two prominent bulges ahead of the cockpit, which German airmen nicknamed after their shape and by which the version is recognized at first glance. Later a canopy with fewer frames and a better view was added, so the same type flew in two rather different glazing configurations.
The most valuable moment comes right at the end: the film is peeled off at a sharp angle, slowly and rather with tweezers than with a fingernail, and before the paint has fully cured. Clean glass stays under the mask, but the edge of the frame tends to be a hair higher, so the same shade is drawn over it with a fine brush. Only then is the model sealed with a clear coat, which blends the sprayed insignia with the surrounding surface into a single finish.
The set offers an outside mask, an inside mask and two sets of national insignia masks. The die-cut self-adhesive film serves for painting; the model and the paints are not included in the delivery.
On an already built piece the set can be used to respray the insignia, but only where the original layer is smooth and sound. Older markings have to be removed first, usually by soaking and careful scraping with a wooden stick, and the surface then leveled with very fine abrasive paper. On a bumpy base the film does not seal and the new insignia would get a bled edge that nothing can save.
