A set of machine-cut vinyl masks in 1:48 scale for models of the two-seat Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet carrier aircraft. It is not a kit, but an accessory for the painting stage. The self-adhesive film follows the elongated cockpit canopy and its framing and leaves no traces of adhesive on the transparent part when removed. Furball Aero-Design is an American maker of accessories specializing in the aircraft of the US Navy.
The F/A-18F is the two-seat variant of the Super Hornet. The second crew seat was created at the expense of part of the internal fuel tank; otherwise the machine does not differ structurally from the single-seat version — it has the same wing, the same angular air intakes and the same engines. Two-seat machines are used both for combat duties and for training and in the control aircraft role. For the modeler what matters above all is that the elongated cockpit canopy has a different division of frames from the single-seat version, so the masks are not interchangeable.
A long canopy is masked from the back forwards, so that the pieces already applied do not curl under your hand. Lift the film off the sheet with tweezers, lay one end of it down and only then settle the rest — that way you avoid bubbles. On curved places, stretch the vinyl slightly, but do not pull it by force, or it will shrink back after spraying and cause an overrun. Spray the frames with the cockpit interior shade first, then with the airframe color. Before clear coating the whole model, check that no mask has a lifted corner; a small gap will show under clear as an irregular edge.
This is an add-on set for a kit you already own. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
