Gemini and Scorpio

The sheet brings two pieces of artwork from a set that the bombers of one American squadron received instead of the usual random nicknames. The sign of Gemini belonged to the aircraft with serial number 252490, Scorpio then to the machine 252762. Each motif is printed separately, so there is no need to use both on one model.

The short era of four engine Liberators

What is interesting is how briefly these machines served with their group. The unit flew forty-nine combat missions with Liberators and then re-equipped with Flying Fortresses. The zodiac decoration therefore appeared and vanished within a few months of the year when things over Europe were being decided. A model with this artwork consequently captures a very narrow window of time, which for a collector is an advantage rather than a limitation.

Recommended procedure

First finish the camouflage and the national insignia from the kit, then apply a gloss layer, and only onto that does the zodiac sign come. The reverse order leads to the border between the colors appearing under the artwork. If you plan to accent the panel joints, do it only after the motif has dried, otherwise the dark mixture will run under its edge and frame it with a thin line you can no longer remove.

Contents and intended use

The package consists of a printed sheet for 1:48 size, calculated for a heavy bomber kit. Plastic parts and glue are not in it and are obtained separately according to whose kit you are building. Before buying it is worth checking whether the model you have chosen matches the form with the nose turret, because the artwork belonged on the side of the fuselage right behind it.
