The masking set 1:48 de Havilland Vampire F.3 BASIC from New Ware - cut kabuki masks in the basic grade for the British first-generation jet fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a model but an accessory for the build: a set of cut self-adhesive masks of kabuki paper in 1:48 scale for the Vampire F.3 version. The BASIC grade designates the basic extent within the New Ware range. The exact list of masks is given in the instructions in the package.
The Vampire has a short monocoque nacelle with the cockpit set forward and two tail booms. The glazing is made up of the windscreen and a simply shaped canopy whose frames are narrow and are badly cut by hand on a model in 1:48 scale: thin tape puckers as it is drawn around a curve and the edge is then not even. A pre-cut mask holds the shape of the curve precisely and the frame comes out symmetrical on both sides. On an aircraft with the smooth, unbroken surface of a nacelle, where there are not many distracting details, a clean transition between the finish and the clear part is markedly visible.
First wash and degrease the clear part. Place the mask with tweezers, press the edges with a blunt tool and only then spray. With British postwar machines one often works with smooth aluminum or silver surfaces, which are merciless to imperfections, so apply the paint in several very thin coats and let each one set. Apply metallic shades last, as they are badly covered over with tape. Remove the mask while the finish is not yet fully cured.
The set does not contain the model, paints or glue. Before buying, check that the masks match the kit you are building.
