de Havilland Vampire F.3 TFace: a double-sided 1:48 masking set (Eduard)

This item is not a model of the aircraft but a masking set in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in the TFace form. The abbreviation TFace means that the sheet contains masks not only for the outer side of the glazing but for its inner side as well. Thanks to that you can spray the canopy frames separately, from the inside in the interior color and from the outside in the color of the skin, that is the way it looks on the real aircraft. The masks are cut from kabuki paper, which shapes well and leaves no sticky residue once removed.

What the set is for

With an open canopy the inner side of the frame is visible as well. When masking is done only from the outside, the inside stays in the color of the clear part or has to be painted in laboriously with a brush. A double-sided set solves this problem systematically: the inner masks have the shape matching the frames from the other side, so both colors end exactly on the edge of the frame.

How to use the masks

• Wash and degrease the glazing and only then stick the inner masks on.
• Spray the interior color, let it dry and add the outer masks.
• Spray in thin coats, otherwise a visible step will form on the edge.
• Take the masks off as soon as possible after the paint has dried.
• Handle the clear part with gloves; fingerprints will show through the paint.

Who the set is for

The set suits modelers who want to build the model with the canopy open and show off the interior of the cockpit, and everyone who takes care over the glazing. For a closed canopy the ordinary single-sided variant is usually enough.

This is an accessory for modelers, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package. Check beforehand that the set matches the kit you are building.
