A decal set in 1:48 scale focused on Supermarine Spitfire Mk. II fighters. The subtitle Presentation Spits refers to machines whose purchase was paid for from public subscriptions and which therefore carried on the fuselage a presentation inscription with the name of the donor, the town or the organization. Those inscriptions are the main content of the sheet, so it consists mostly of fine, small texts rather than large paintings.

The real subject

The Spitfire Mk. II was a single-engine all-metal fighter with the characteristic elliptical wing, which followed on from the first production version of the type and differed mainly in a more powerful engine and in changes to the starting system. It served with the Royal Air Force in the early 1940s and is among the most widespread subjects in aircraft modeling of all.

Applying small inscriptions

• Fine texts tear easily - use tweezers with smooth jaws and carry the decal with the paper backing.
• The surface has to be glossy and smooth; with thin lettering silvering shows at once and cannot be saved afterwards.
• Once an inscription is in place, blot the water away with a cotton bud by pressing, not by wiping sideways.
• With small texts dose the softener sparingly and do not touch the film until it has dried, or it will smear.
• Add a second dose of softener to inscriptions on the curve of a fuselage only after the first has dried.

Who the set is for

For modelers who build the Spitfire Mk. II and want to capture a less usual subject with a presentation inscription. Given how fine the decals are, this is rather a set for patient builders with experience of working with tweezers and a softener.

This is an accessory for a kit. The model, paints, varnish and a decal softener are not included in the package.
