A photo-etched metal set for a model of the Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless dive bomber in 1:48 scale. Intended for finishing off a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was an American carrier-based dive bomber that made its name in the fighting in the Pacific in the Second World War. The crew consisted of the pilot and, behind him, the gunner working the rear flexible weapon. The most conspicuous feature of the machine was its perforated dive brakes: the holes in them reduced the buffeting during a dive and allowed the pilot to hold the machine steady on the target. Power came from a Wright Cyclone radial engine. The SBD-5 version was among the most numerously built.
Photo-etched metal parts for a model in 1:48 scale. On the Dauntless photo-etch pays off in particular: the perforated brakes and the interior of the cockpit cannot be made from injection-molded plastic at a matching thickness. Which parts the package holds and which kit it is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions and on the packaging. The airplane model is not included.
Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, level the tab with a file and try the part dry. Make the folds in a bending tool or over the edge of a metal ruler. They are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue or a two-part epoxy; cement for plastic models does not hold on metal. Degrease the metal and go over it with a primer before painting. If the set carries parts for places where the kit already has plastic detail, sand that off first, or the new part will not seat.
The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
