A photo-etched set of intake covers Eduard F-14 F.O.D. 1:48 for the American carrier-based fighter. An accessory for a ground appearance, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a photo-etched detail set from the manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale. The abbreviation F.O.D. (Foreign Object Damage) stands for the protective covers of the air intakes, which are put on the aircraft while it stands on the ground so that no foreign objects get into the engines. The set is not a model and not a kit but an accessory bringing out the ground, in-service appearance of the model of the carrier-based fighter F-14 Tomcat. It usually comes with Remove Before Flight tags as well; the exact contents follow the instructions.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat was an American supersonic carrier-based fighter with a variable-geometry wing, in service from the 1970s. For standing on the deck of an aircraft carrier its large rectangular air intakes were closed off with protective covers carrying conspicuous warning tags.
The photo-etched parts are cut from the fret, formed into shape and set into the intakes. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The covers are usually painted a bright red; the tags give the scene a realistic ground feel, especially on a model on a stand or in a diorama.
This is a detail accessory, not a model of an airplane. The base kit and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
