This is a cockpit where classic gauges have practically come to an end. The panel is dominated by three screens and a large color display in the middle, above them a data entry panel and a head-up display; round instruments are left only as a standby group. For the modeler that means the opposite problem from machines of the 1950s: it is not about painting dozens of small scales but about making sure the large dark areas of the displays do not look like an empty black rectangle. The cockpit is single-seat, but it sits under a tall teardrop canopy, so all of it is visible including the side consoles and the frame behind the seat. A closed canopy hides nothing here.
A photo-etched part gives button bezels and relief, but not the content of the screens. A decal from the box is flat and on a large display area that shows. Hand painting the symbols on a screen in 1:48 scale is beyond most modelers. A color print with a three-dimensional texture solves both at once. Apply it to a smooth, matte-painted and degreased base, settle it with a decal softener and let it dry out thoroughly.
