The set from Red Fox Studio is a color print of the instrument panel and cockpit details with 3D texture on decal paper. It replaces the smooth plastic panel from the Eduard kit and is applied as a decal — by soaking and positioning, not by gluing.
The cockpit of the Fw 190 is famously tight and clearly laid out. A substantial part of the engine control is entrusted to automatics, so there are fewer levers on the panel and the console than on comparable machines of its day and the layout looks tidy. Under the seat and along the sides, on the other hand, there are panels with fuses and small equipment that visually fill the cockpit up. The A-2 version belongs to the early series, so it corresponds to the earlier state of the equipment, not to the late forms of the type — between the early and the late cockpit of the same machine there are differences that a specialist will notice. The canopy slides to the rear and is low; once it is closed it is mainly the upper part of the panel and the frame around it that stay legible.
A photo-etched set gives sharp outlines and layered relief, but the modeler creates the color and the scales on it. A decal from the kit is flat and in a narrow cockpit it looks like a sticker. Hand painting dials in 1:48 calls for a steady hand and plenty of time, and with a small cockpit in particular every inaccuracy is concentrated in one place. A color print with texture combines both. Apply it to a smooth, matte-painted and degreased base, settle it with a decal softener and let it dry out thoroughly.
