Die-cut film for the ground-attack Fw 190F-8 in 1:48 scale. It masks the canopy from the outer and the reverse side and adds a mask for the crosses and a sheet of printed marking.

From 1943 the Focke-Wulf 190 moved more and more often from air combat to work over the ground. The F version was based on the A-8 airframe, received armor on the underside of the fuselage and racks for bombs or anti-armor containers. The machine guns in the wing gave way to lower weight; the armament stayed at a pair of weapons at the root. Pilots valued the wide track of the landing gear, which made it possible to land on muddy field strips where a narrow fighter would have ended up on its nose.
The teardrop canopy and the sides of the fuselage form a double curvature. A flat piece of carrier film has to fit onto it somehow, so it either wrinkles or stretches and the marking is drawn out into an oval. Softening agents can only manage that up to a point. The film of a mask is flexible and adheres even where the radius changes in two axes at once, because it does not have to stay a flat surface.
Anyone building the machine with a bomb rack should think the order through: a masked canopy is easier to hold in the fingers than a finished model with stores. The shapes are adapted to the cockpit from Tamiya. The surplus film can be used for the muzzle covers of the weapons.
