A winter cover is a screen over the front grille of the vehicle. In frost it limits the flow of air through the radiator, so the engine reaches its working temperature faster and holds it even while driving in the cold. On vehicles used in winter conditions it was a common modification, easily recognized in period photographs, and that is exactly why it is a rewarding detail: a model gains a clear placement in a particular season at once. The GAZ-67B was a Soviet light field car with all-wheel drive, used as a liaison, reconnaissance and command vehicle and also as a tractor for light weapons.
First separate the part carefully from the casting block with a fine saw — never with cutters, as a thin wall cracks easily. Then wash resin castings in warm water with detergent so that the residual mold release agent disappears, otherwise the paint will not hold. Next comes dry-fitting to the front grille of the model and, if needed, sanding the mating face to a flat contact. Glue it with cyanoacrylate; on a plastic part cement for plastic is enough. Spray primer before painting. You can treat the cover in the same shade as the vehicle or in the color of canvas — the second option is easier to read on a model. A dark wash will bring out the folds and the lacing, a light pass with a dry brush will pull out the edges, and dust will strengthen the impression of winter use.
