A photo-etched accessory set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the Grumman F-14A Tomcat carrier-borne fighter in the late production guise, 1:48 scale. It is not a kit — the set adds thin metal parts to the base model in places where a plastic molding necessarily comes out thicker than the scale would call for. The exact contents of the fret are not stated here, so we recommend checking the match with the kit you are building before you buy.
The F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier-borne fighter with a variable-geometry wing, operated by the US Navy. The F-14A version was the first production variant; it went through a number of changes during production, so later machines differ from early ones in details of the airframe, cockpit fittings and equipment. The word late in the set's name points to precisely this later guise, which is worth telling apart when detailing — parts intended for early machines need not fit a late one.
A photo-etched fret is sensitive to handling: cut the parts off with a scalpel on glass or another hard surface and degrease the area with alcohol before gluing. Make the folds in a photo-etch bender; sharp corners can be shaped up with a metal ruler. Use cyanoacrylate glue in the smallest amount; any excess dries into a white haze that is hard to remove. Fit and paint the interior details before you close the fuselage — after that you cannot reach them.
