Photo-etched add-on set for a model of the British Hawker Hunter F.4 jet fighter in 1:48 scale. The metal parts replace components from the kit that are simplified in shape.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Hawker Hunter was a British jet fighter of the 1950s, recognizable at a glance by its swept wing and the clean lines of its fuselage. In its day it was among the most accomplished machines of its class, and besides the Royal Air Force it was used by a number of other countries, with some of which it lasted in service for decades. The F.4 is one of its early versions.
Photo-etching is a thin metal sheet with the parts etched into it, which are cut out of it and folded to shape. It is used anywhere an injection-molded kit cannot be fine enough, because metal holds its shape even at thicknesses plastic cannot manage. Typically these are parts on which the real thickness of the material is visible on a model. The exact contents of the set and the kit it is drawn for are given by the manufacturer in the instructions, so check them before buying.
Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, and never break them out, so that they do not bend. Sand the remains of the connecting tabs away with a fine file. Make the folds along the marked groove, ideally in a bending tool or between two blades, and press evenly along the whole length. Glue the metal with cyanoacrylate applied in a minute amount, as cement for plastic will not hold on it. Before painting, degrease the parts and spray a base coat, otherwise the paint will rub off smooth metal.
The package holds a photo-etched set. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
