Masks for spraying the national crosses onto a model of the Heinkel He 111Z-1 in 1:48 scale. An MH models set for the five-engine tug with two joined fuselages. The target kit is ICM.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is not a kit but an accessory for a finished model. It contains pre-cut MH models masks for spraying the national crosses onto a model of the He 111Z-1 in 1:48 scale. The paint goes directly onto the finish of the model, so the insignia has no carrier film and no glossy edge. The masks are punched to the shape of the ICM kit.
The He 111Z Zwilling came about by joining two He 111 airframes with a new center wing section carrying a fifth engine. It was a purpose-built machine with great towing power, used to tow heavy cargo gliders. The span is enormous in 1:48 scale and the wing surfaces look empty, which makes the quality of the national insignia stand out all the more.
On a long wing a decal settles in sections and the joins between them show in side light. A mask does not have this drawback, because the sprayed paint is uniform regardless of the size of the insignia and the edge stays sharp even where it crosses a panel line or a pressing.
Let the camouflage cure properly and coat the area under the insignia with gloss varnish. Seat the mask according to measurements taken from the panel lines and close the edge with the base color. Spray in thin coats perpendicular to the surface and take the mask off while the paint has only just dried. On areas this large it pays to work in sections, so that the mask does not start to hold too firmly in the meantime.
The set is cut for a particular kit in 1:48 scale, so check before you buy that it matches the model you are building. Paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
