Diorama accessory in 1:48 scale

An accessory intended for a diorama setting in 1:48 scale. It goes under the name Gooseberry modern II, so it is the second version of a subject that the name places in the modern period. In 1:48 scale the accessory meets aircraft, vehicles and figures of the same scale, so it can be worked into a scene that is already under construction.

What the accessory does in the scene

A diorama is not made by the hardware but by its surroundings. It is the small things around the main model that reveal where the scene takes place and in what period, and at the same time they give the viewer the scale by which the size of the main model can be judged at all. Without them the model stands on an empty board and reads as a sample rather than as a scene.

Tips for setting it into a scene

Work out the layout before you glue anything down:

• Lay the accessory and the main model on the board dry and look for the viewing angle from which the scene reads
• Leave open space; a crowded scene tires the eye and the main model gets lost in it
• Wash the surface with lukewarm soapy water before painting and let it dry
• Apply a primer, as coats hold badly on a bare surface
• Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; super glue bonds even where plastic cement has no effect
• Tie the color of the accessory to the base with a light dusting, otherwise it will stay obvious that it came from elsewhere

Who it is for

The accessory will be used by a modeler who is building a diorama in 1:48 scale and wants to give it a setting. The package contains this accessory only. The base board, paints, glue and figures are not included, unless stated otherwise.
