The real subject

The Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II is a single-engine multirole fifth-generation airplane. The A version is the land-based variant with conventional takeoff and landing and is the most widespread of the whole F-35 family. For a modeler it is a machine with a large glazed area and sharp-edged covers, where the transitions between colors take a long time to mask with tape.

What the set contains

Masking pieces for building the F-35A Lightning II in 1:48 scale. The pieces are stuck onto the model before spraying and taken off once the paint has dried. Before buying it is worth comparing the shape of the pieces with the parts of the kit you are building, because the target kit is not given in the name of this item.

Building and painting tips

• Clean and degrease the surface before sticking the masks on; they then hold more reliably.
• Press the edges of the mask down carefully so that paint cannot run under them.
• Lay the paint on in several light coats; a heavy coat tears on the edge of the mask.
• Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set; once fully cured it comes away less easily.
• Peel slowly and at an angle, not straight up.

Who it is for

It suits the modeler who wants sharp borders between colors and does not want to spend an evening cutting shapes out of adhesive tape. It will find a use on the glazing and on other areas that are masked repeatedly.
