The basic grade of the self-adhesive mask set for building the A-4 Skyhawk in 1:48 scale, specifically for the early forms designated B, C, L and SU. The set holds cut masks for the main masked places, above all for the canopy glazing. The BASIC grade is the leanest version in the range and is meant for modelers whose concern is mainly clean glazing without cutting tape by hand.
The Skyhawk was an exceptionally compact machine for a carrier attack aircraft, and even a model in 1:48 scale stays small. The frames of the canopy are so narrow that freehand it is practically impossible to keep them the same width along their whole length. A cut mask solves that problem for you and at the same time holds the shape of the rounded corners, which are the hardest to cut with a scalpel. Besides accuracy, a mask has one more practical advantage: the glazing stays covered throughout the build, so neither dust from sanding nor fingerprints settle on it.
Wash the glazing, degrease it and let it dry perfectly. Move the mask with tweezers, lay it on and smooth the edges with a blunt tool, so that no air bubble is left anywhere. Spray thinly and in several passes, as a heavy wet coat creeps underneath. Lift the mask off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch, and do it slowly, back across itself at a shallow angle.
The set holds only the masks. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
