Do 17 Z-2 BASIC 1:48 mask set (New Ware)

The basic form of the mask set in 1:48 scale for the model of the Dornier Do 17 Z-2. It holds pre-cut self-adhesive masks that are applied to the glazing and sprayed together with the surrounding camouflage. The BASIC range is the entry-level version among the masks for this type. The set is designed for the ICM 48244 kit.

Why on the Do 17 in particular

The glazed nose of the Dornier is densely divided by narrow frames, and the frames converge in several directions at once. Surfaces like that are the most demanding in masking by hand, because every cut of tape is a different length and set at a different angle. A cut set shortens that work from several hours to tens of minutes, and the resulting width of the frames is the same across the whole nose.

A procedure that has proved itself

• Assemble the model completely, glue the glazing in and sand the seams. Apply the mask only to a finished surface.
• First overspray a thin coat of the interior color, so that the frames do not show bare plastic from the inside.
• The primer follows, then the camouflage. The shade of the frame matches the color of the surrounding skin.
• Remove any adhesive residue once the mask is off with a cloth lightly moistened with alcohol, not with paint thinner.
• Store the unused parts of the sheet flat and away from heat, or the adhesive ages and the film curls.
